ATTORNEY PROFILE
Yi specializes in Estate Planning and Probate Litigation, among the small number of Massachusetts attorneys who can serve clients in Mandarin and Cantonese. She also practices in corporate law and civil litigation.
Yi has earned her reputation as a sought-out Mandarin/Cantonese bilingual estate planning attorney in Massachusetts. She provides high quality, thorough, efficient, and responsive services to address clients’ needs. While her practices include estate planning, probate, corporate law, commercial and civil litigation, and employment law, she focuses on estate planning, estate and trust administration, and business succession planning.
Yi assists clients worldwide in the creation of their estate plans, including establishing various irrevocable trusts—such as irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILITs), Medicaid Asset Protection trusts, qualified personal residence trusts and Supplemental Needs trusts, with a goal to help clients make tax-efficient transfers to family members. She also administers estates, including the preparation of probate court documents and estate tax returns, and advises Personal Representatives on their fiduciary duties.
Yi serves as trustee and trust protector of her clients’ trusts and counsels her clients on administration and best practices for their trusts. She also assists clients in working through family disputes arising from the administration of estates and trusts.
On the corporate side, Yi advises domestic and international companies on corporate formation, corporate compliance, asset and stock purchases, and commercial agreements. She has resolved complex disputes arising out of investment and business transactions, business operations, shareholders’ agreements, employment issues, and commercial leases.
Prior to forming her practice, Yi practiced law at Conn Kavanaugh and prior to that a boutique firm in Newton, where she advised clients on estate planning, elder law, corporate, employment, and litigation matters. She previously clerked in the District Court for the Honorable Sabita Singh, now an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Yi obtained her LL.B from Guangdong University, her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, and her LL.M from Boston University School of Law.
Yi is a Council Member for the Bar Association of Norfolk County in Massachusetts, the first Chinese woman attorney appointed in this role.
When Yi is not working, she volunteers for the Legal Aid Society and The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Yi is an avid volleyball player and a dog lover.
